Celtic Knotwork – where cn I learn more techniques?

I am currently about halfway through Aidan Meehan’s step by step guide – which isn’t brilliant but its the best introduction I have found yet. I also have George Bain’s Celtic Art – the methods of construction. I have already checked out most of the internet guides and they are not good enough really and I don’t want to use computer programmes I want to learn to draw them myself My problem is that George Bain seems to have written for people who have a bit more understanding than me – and while I would love to move straight on to his book I think I need a bit of middle ground teaching but I can’t find any. Does anyone have any ideas? – thanks all.

LoveKnots answers:

How about Celtic Knots for Beaded Jewellery by Suzen Millodot? You don’t say how you are using the knots, but this is a good book that takes you some simple knots and gradually gets a bit more complicated, although certainly isn’t comprehensive.

It might be a good intro for the basic techniques that would then lead onto your more complicated book.

There is also a book on chinese knotting by the same author (some of the techniques and styles are similar).

I bought my books from borders, so it’s easily available. It’s also not expensive either. Have a look in some larger book shops in the crafts section, this is where i got mine.

Hope this helps!

Is it weird to wear a Victorian dress to prom?

I love old fashioned clothes as opposed to modern day slutty, overy-blinged clothes. Frankly, I don’t really care what people think of what I wear, if I like it, then what’s wrong? :3

Just want to know how many people think it’s weird to wear this to my upcoming prom. I’m 16 years old. I’m a teenager that actually respects herself and has a bit of dignity when it comes to clothing and isn’t afraid to wear what she wants, what’s wrong with that? :3 <3

Personally, I think this is the most beautiful dress I've ever seen.

^-^ <3

LoveKnots answers:

That is a beautiful dress, I would definitely wear it :D
Like, put your hair up and curl it, and wear the right jewelry and it would look AMAZING.
Wear it, it looks great :)

I’m 13, and i need to get my mom a creative gift, what should i get her?

I’m 13, and my mom likes anything that you put effort into, as any mothers do. She likes tea, and jewelry but i want to take the next step and get her the ultimate mother’s day gift, any ideas?

Make a laminated (or non-laminated) bookmark: find pictures of the two of you or pictures she would like out of a magazine or inspiring words- it can be a few small pics or just one. Cut the construction paper to the size you want and start gluing the pictures on, then take it to Staples/Office Max, Office Depot or a store like that and get it laminated, then cut it. After hole-punch the top and put a ribbon or twine of some kind through the hole and tie it in a knot. You can even skip laminating it.

Make a ‘love jar’ and fill it with origami hearts, flowers and slips of paper with notes of appreciation written on them or ‘I love you’ written in different languages (on the back write which language it is).

Say I love you in different languages

How can I wear a white mesh shirt and look cute?

I got this shirt for my birthday and I love it but I have no idea how to wear it :(

Thats the exact shirt.
its too hot in GA for skinny jeans

LoveKnots answers:

Okay…. First of all, I wouldn’t call that a mesh shirt, but more of just a sheer tee. But i’m assuming its kind of see through on you, so here’s what i would suggest.

*if your feeling a little summery and not so worried about being too revealing, try a bright bandeau top or cropped tank underneath. This will look super surfer babe-esc. Then for the bottoms, i would try some frayed/distressed light wash denim shorts. Tuck the sheer shirt into the denim shorts and you’ll have a really cute summery outfit!

*If you want to dress up the top…. I would suggest wearing a lace bodysuit underneath. Basically its a thin leotard, and i know they sell them at forever21 and urban outfitters. The sheer fabric and lace together will look really cute! Then you could pair it with some dark wash skinny jeans, and some simple chic jewelry if you like.

*For wearing it somewhere like school, shopping, dates, etc…. I would suggest wearing a basic camisole underneath, then the top, and any sort of cute jacket. (a blazer, denim jacket, etc.) this would be a more sophisticated polished version to wear the top.

*you can always wear it with a high waisted skirt. Although, since the top is a little loose fitting, i would recommend a bodycon skirt, or pencil skirt. This way, your outfit will be proportioned, and you won’t have loose-on-loose. If you want a more casual skirt look, just find a light wash denim skirt..(american eagle is good).

*you can always wear some cute short-shorts, a basic cami underneath and then gather the side of the shirt, and knot it.

*if you get tired of the cut, length or style of the shirt (just an idea,) you can always cut the neckline to make it more off the shoulder, or even crop it! :) lol maybe its just me, but i do this ALLLL the time!!!

Hope i helped:)

Charles asks…

what is the best wire/ string for jewelry making?

whenever I make jewellry, and i’ve made qutie a bit, the string always breaks, or the knots come undone, because the string is too thick, too thin, whatever. And wire never turns out right and always stabs into my skin so i can’t even wear the jewelry. Any and all suggestions are helpful! :)

LoveKnots answers:

What I use, and what I’ve noticed many professionals use, is Beadalon jewelry wire. It’s a different kind of wire that is more flexible and smooth, but it won’t kink. Plus, it makes homemade jewelry look store-bought. I absolutely love it!

(You could easily find it at any crafting or department store like Hobby Lobby or Walmart.)

Donald asks…

What can I make from salt dough?

Does anyone have any suggestions of things to make out of salt dough?

LoveKnots answers:

Love knots. Decorated hearts. Christmas tree ornaments (angels, stars etc…).Flowers to use as table decorations. Plaques with flowers. Animals. Picture frames. Brooches and simple jewellery, Candlesticks. Basically anything that could be made with clay, but obviously only for indoor use or decoration, as it does not tolerate water.

David asks…

What are good online jewelry stores?

I’m going to buy my girlfriend a promise ring for our anniversary… I’m looking to spend around 100 or less… Does anyone know of any online jewelry stores that are high quality and legit? Celtic knots, infinity symbols, and engraving would be a bonus (:

LoveKnots answers:

Check out Jessica Rachel Jewelry
They sell handmade bracelets with good luck charms like evil eye, hamsa, crosses, snakes, buddhas. I love their stuff and bought so much of it!
